AFM '08: A Bloody Photo from Splice

November 7, 2008

She's sexy, she's hungry, she's got a bald head...and she was created in a lab. Meet Dren. The human/creature whipped up by Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley scientists in Vincenzo Natali's Splice. Actress Delphine Chanéac plays Dren who you see below digging into a gory meal.

Son Pictures just picked this film up for distribution from Sentator Entertainment.

Executive produced by Guillermo del Toro, the film tells of Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists who defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named Dren, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.

i'm really excited to see this. i LOVE Sarah Polley and the movie's storyline (albeit like Species) sounds cool. a funny thing, the hybrid's name is DREN, which is NERD spelled backwards. LOL.

SPECIES never had the endlessly messed up element of two scientists sexing it up with a "child" they created from, among other things, their own DNA.

Finally, an original idea for a movie. Not county "The Island of that Dr. guy" and "Species chic" but this looks to be better than either of those. The girl playing Dren looks wicked. I saw some photos on another site and they are unbelievable. This just goes to show why Del Toro is the man. Imagination - Something almost no one in Hollywood has anymore. Can not freakin wait!

Dren? You mean like the nickname Potsie Webber got from his secret crush, Jonie?

"People always call you a nerd, but you're not... you're the opposite. That's why I call you Dren"
