The horror graphic novel "Sorrow" is being developed for the big screen by Twisted Pictures (home of the
Saw franchise).
The company announced it is working on a feature film version of Rick Remender, Seth Peck and Francesco Francavilla's tale which was published through Image Comics.
Tapped to adapt "Sorrow" is Michael Hidalgo, writer of
The Butcherhouse Chronicles - a script to go into production soon at Platinum Dunes.
Described as a mix of
Exorcist-like terror with the dread of
Twin Peaks, "Sorrow" is set in the eponymous town of Nevada that was ravaged by nuclear testing. The sign at the front of the town reads "Population Zero." However, the locals have a very different story. When a young woman, searching for her Native American ancestry, stumbles into town, she soon discovers that not all that is buried is dead.
"Rick, Seth and Francesco have created a throwback to '70s and '80s horror/thriller films with the perfect mix of terror and memorable characters. The idea is to make a great film that resonates with fans of the genre," says Hidalgo.
Remender also penned "XXXombies" and "Night Mary;" the latter has been set up at Summit Entertainment and is being produced by Animal Logic.
Twisted's Mark Burg and Oren Koules will produce "Sorrow" along with Erick Salomon, Chris Ridenhour and Andrew Wilson.

It's about Native Americans -- that's what the graphic novel was about, anyway.
