13 Street's Last Call Makes Horror Film Interactive

Not really sure what to make of this. I want to maim anyone who uses their cell phone during a movie, however, we're living in a time when "gimmick" (see: the 3-D craze) reigns at the box office. What I'm babbling about is horror's first interactive film in which characters in the film can call an audience member and get instructions on what to do. International suspense channel 13 Street spearheaded this experiment and it's being applied to the German film Last Call . The trailer below explains it all...

Last Call is the first interactive horror movie in the world where the audience is able to communicate with the protagonist. A film controlled by a member of the audience, thus blurring the boundaries between game and film. Language recognition...

Paramount's Micro Budget Film Company Gets Name

Emboldened by the success of Paranormal Activity , Paramount announced it was going to create a new branch that would support low budget productions.

According to Indie Wire, a million dollars has been injected into the recently-named Insurge Pictures. Ten films are on the development slate, all budgeted at $100 thousand. The forthcoming site for Insurge will read: "We want to find and distribute crazy, unpredictable, and hopefully awesome movies - movies that make you want to line up to see at your local theater with all your friends (and us). Movies that a big studio would never release because they’re too risky, too silly, and they don’t star Sandra Bullock."

Cute.

More details are coming - perhaps a look at upcoming projects. Now, this doesn't mean...

First Casting News for Sharktopus !

Karen O'Hara, director of original movies over at SyFy, dropped some knowledge on her Twitter followers today regarding Roger Corman's latest picture Sharktopus .

"Eric Roberts will be playing the scientist who creates the unholy hybrid!" she writes.

Corman himself told us, in this exclusively interview , Sharktopus comes from "a company called Blue Water, which is under contract with the Navy. It is a bioengineering firm. Pirates or terrorists use small boats to attack different areas where the Navy officially cannot go, so they commissioned Blue Water to design a half shark/half octopus. There's something implanted in its brain they can control. The tentacles can overturn the boat and then the shark eats the terrorists."

More on Jay Baruchel's Pig

The fact that Jay Baruchel's "endgame" is to become the next David Cronenberg fascinates me. Here's a young actor who's been seen in Tropic Thunder , Almost Famous and now She's Out of My League - who has the potential to keep pushing through the mainstream - and what does he want to do? Well, as he told our brother site, ComingSoon.net, here : He wants to live in Montreal and make horror movies.

One project he wants to get off the ground is called Pig , "a 21st century re-imagining of the slasher film with a lot of socio-racial commentary."

He talked a bit more about the film. Here's what he had to say: Pig is about "a crazy white cop who chases four black kids throughout the ghetto on July 4. It'll be subversive and controversial and...

Infestation Director Goes Nuclear

One of last year's surprises was Infestation , a goofy, violent creature feature about alien insects that invade earth. Chris Marquette starred as an office worker who gathers up a few survivors to fight back. It was simple, amusing and had a few fun twists.

Well, the director of that film - Kyle Rankin - is switching gears for Nuclear Family , which stars Infestation Ray Wise, Corin Nemec ( The Stand ) and Kinsey Packard. It sounds a bit like The Road , replace the father and son with a family of four as they try to survive in the woods after a nuclear blast. Wise's "The Man" and his brutal army of rapists and killers make that difficult.

Rankin is currently in production on this project which is geared to be a web series. You can check out some photos here .

Neeson Sees Undead Ricci in After.Life Clip

Liam Neeson's a busy man these days. Kickin' ass in Taken , playing Zeus in Clash of the Titans and conversing with the dead in After.Life , which opens in select cities on April 9.

Neeson plays a funeral director whose slab becomes occupied by Christina Ricci's Anna. She's dead, obviously, yet she's up and walking around...and Neeson's character can talk with her. A film clip that went live at the film's official site demonstrates this.

Looking out the window from the apartment of Greg Strause to the amazing view which overlooks most of downtown Los Angeles is how the director first explains to this Shock writer where the idea for Skyline (the flick he's co-directing with his brother Colin) came to fruition.

"What if it's the end of the world right outside your window? And what if you've got boxed seats," asks Greg. "That was really the hook that we started with and then Josh [Cordes] and Liam [O'Donnell] started crafting the story."

Is Brody Right for Predators ? Braga Thinks So

Alice Braga had a few things to say about Predators today at the Repo Men press day.

She remained mum on the possible Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo. But in addition to talking briefly about her role ( "She's a girl from special forces. She's a tough cookie. She's a sniper. She jumps into the story and is trying to run for her life..." ), the actress asserted the Adrien Brody was an ideal specimen after all for this action-packed creature feature.

"He was amazing," she told MTV. "When we arrived in Hawaii where we first started shooting the film, it was really interesting that he was willing to really get stronger because his body is naturally thin.
You can't say I didn't try to give this one a chance, because I did. Then I turned it off.

Let Me In Vampire is Not "Cool"

Let Me In , the remake of Let the Right One In , is hitting theaters on October 1 and Chloe Moretz recently spoke to Movieline about her turn as Abby.

She tells the site she's only seen "snippets" of the original film and wanted to do her own take on the role. "The character of Abby... I mean, usually a lot of movies glamorize being a vampire. It's pretty, it's cool, you look awesome! The way we did it was that it's not cool to be a vampire. It's a burden that she has to carry with her, not this fun, cool, interesting thing. It's scary, deep, and dark, this devil inside of her. The vampire is different than Abby. It's like her alternate personality, and when it takes her over, she has no control."
