Stephen King's Dolan's Cadillac Trailer Pulls In

May 19, 2009

Production outfit Mind's Eye Pictures has posted a sales trailer for Dolan's Cadillac, a revenge thriller starring Christian Slater, Wes Bentley and Emmanuelle Vaugier. They've also released this synopsis:

Based on Stephen King's eponymous short story, Dolan's Cadillac is a dark tale of murderous and unrepentant revenge. A modern twist on the Edgar Allan Poe classic 'The Cask of Amontillado,' Dolan’s Cadillac proves that revenge really is a dish best served cold.

Robinson is a non-descript middle school teacher whose beloved wife, Elizabeth, witnesses an execution in the desert and becomes a target for the executioner, notorious Las Vegas crime boss Jimmy Dolan. Dolan’s vast wealth was accumulated through his human trafficking operation, a lucrative business he will not jeopardize.

The mobster succeeds in having Elizabeth killed before she can testify against him. Without a witness to the murders, Dolan goes free.

The Knowledge that Dolan is behind Elizabeth's death fosters in Robinson an insatiable thirst for revenge. However, Dolan is virtually untouchable traveling only in his custom Cadillac with tank-like protection.

On a steep descent into madness, Robinson begins seeing visions of his dead wife wherever he goes. Spurred on by Elizabeth’s spectre, Robinson begins his elaborate plan to kill Jimmy Dolan.

The Cadillac that was once his armor may now become his tomb.

This is vengeance, Stephen King style.

You'll find a handful of photos from the production right here.

Trailer is far too long. Reveals too much of the story. Plus it looks just like another generic revenge flick. I know the story is so much more but the trailer doesn't look that enticing.

Looks like they may have actually gotten this one right. The story is a great tale of revenge, and the backstory that they film here will hopefully work and not take up the entire run time. The story worked so well because it was a study of revenge and the way that obsession with revenge works on a man's mind. The question is which film is the best adaptation of King's work?

"The question is which film is the best adaptation of King's work?"

I would say the best adaptation would either be The Shawshank Redemption or Stand By Me. Both are extraordinarily good movies and I've seen them in many Top lists. If you're looking for horror it would probably be either Carrie or Misery. Personally I think Christine is the most enjoyable.

So - Taylor - does the trailer reveal too much of the story or not enough? Make up your mind.

The movie sounds interesting but that trailer could have been better.

WTH, the trailer was worse than Obsessed, it just gave the whole movie away. Might even be in the same order. Ill wait for it to tv.

This looks exactly like a Stephen King story made into a Stephen King Movie.

I'm just happy to see Christian Slater working and Wes Bently stopped chasing beautiful bags..

"So - Taylor - does the trailer reveal too much of the story or not enough? Make up your mind."

Both actually. It reveals too much so it feels like a CliffNotes version of the movie. It doesn't have any enticement to get me into the theaters. There's no hook. Nothing to separate it from Taken or the dozens of other revenge flicks coming out. If I didn't know anything about the short story I would feel that I got it all. But at the same time I know what was seen isn't everything.

It showed too much but it showed the wrong stuff.

Goody a new Stephen King adaptation starring Christian Slater. This is about as appetising as a **** pie!
