On Friday, director Samuel Bayer and the Nightmare on Elm Street production set up at Gary, Indiana's City Methodist Church. A ShockTillYouDrop.com reader was lucky enough to swing by and share the photos below with the following report...

"Last night during the filming I heard a lot of screams coming from the inside of the church as well as Freddy's voice when he yelled," says our set spy. "They are set to go back to Gary to shoot another scene sometime in June."

Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker and Katie Cassidy star in the Platinum Dunes-spearheaded reboot of the Krueger franchise. The film opens April 16, 2010.

wonder if they will redesign freddy?

Posted by: Naite22 on May 25, 2009 at 18:55:36

^ I think you can count on them making him look a lot more creepier than in the previous movies!

I'm not much for all these horror re-makes, but I'm actually looking very much forward to Freddy!... It has serious potential to become one of the greater horror flicks of recent time!

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE FIRST PIC OF FREDDY ! ! !

Naite22 - I don't know, I remember being pretty ****ing scared of Freddy as Englund portrayed him. But, IF, they could find a creepier design than the Englund design - that would be bitter sweet. I mean the "old" design - not saying there is one yet - is pretty iconic.

How do you think they'd go about it?

I heard that they were going to make him like grey or rotting, but I doubt it.

I disagree with remakes too... But this one I'm excited about... Freddy always needed a modern twist since nightmares are his domain... I hope they keep the same creepy look or an creepier version

He looks like JEH but like a real burnt victim.

Posted by: Knifegloves.com on May 25, 2009 at 21:41:58

Freddy is described in the script as having charred and leathery skin. Areas on his hands and face are so badly burned you can see some exposed bone. I hear he's supposed to look more realistic and grotesque as ever.

I hope they keep him the same but just tweak it in certain areas. Im not even for this totally against it but its being made anyway so i hope they make freddy look good!

i really hope its better than the f13 remake.
i liked how jason looked and acted, and some of the kills, but the acting killed it for me.
i think the key would be to cast talented actors weve never seen before. really hungry talent thats dieing to make a name for themselves. not only that but it makes it way more realistic seeing a stranger to hollywood on the screen as opposed to no talent destinys child members thrown in there to expand their audience. cough cough, or when tyra banks was in one of the halloween sequels that contributed to the need of a remake for that franchise. just dont screw freddy up.

i think that this will be an interesting remake even though freddy will always belong to robert englund, but one thing i hope they will do is add more disfigurement and not copy and and make a melted down jackie earle haley mask.

I have a feeling they won't release a pic of freddy before the movie comes out...they'll want the fans to stay in suspence and have that first look when they're at the cinema

Posted by: CCR on May 26, 2009 at 07:14:09

@kevin

that would be AWESOME if they didn't show the new look of freddy in ads....but, of course, that's not gonna happen....the first trailer will divide every fan of the original, so they best make it GOOD!!

What would shock all you f*&^%rs and myself included is if instead of redoing a freddy and making him look newer is if ole Robert Englund himself were to reprise his role as the teenager killing pyschopathic dream weaver. I mean it would throw us all for a loop since watching these boards on the whole new freddy movie I have not noticed anyone being let out as freddy i have seen a few names on who the new cast is portraying but no one has mentioned whom freddy is. Englund could do it because the man is a acting genius and he's not too old and I am sure he would love to give this era a taste of just why he is and will always be the greatest horror movie staple ever. not to mention that for anyone else to slip the glove on just would be.....to quote sir charles barkley....."uncivilized"
not to mention with this eras technological advances in the whole special effects department he would be the best choice.

It's Jackie Earle Haley, the man who gave us Rorscarch in the Watchmen earlier this year. You can read all about it here :
http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=10130

He's a quality choice, given his very layered performance in Watchmen. If the crew behind the re-make is determined to make this new Nightmare less campy and more serious, Haley makes more sense than Englund. He's younger, though not by much, and a much more serious actor. Englund is great at the camp and schlock that Freddy delivered before slaying a sleeping teen, but Haley will bring more of a psychopathic feel to the role and if this remake is going to work it's going to need to be brimming with insanity and horror. It can't return to that '80s feel or it will fail.

Nothing exciting. It would of been nice to of heard a description on what Freddy sounded like.

Posted by: Derek on May 26, 2009 at 13:45:48

His features were always that of a natural burn. I'm all on bored for this film but I seriously hope they don't go with an unnatural look. If you stop and think about it I mean they need it to look as if he actually friggin burned his face bad. I have the definitive collect of Elm St. and there's some cool info of how they created a face with (at the time) the most realistic thing to skin and they set it on fire and thats where they got his face. I dont remember what film it was all I know is I can surely see them doing something like that here and letting fate decide the makeup.

In regards to the "what will Freddy look like" discussion, with today's FX capabilities vs the last time anyone actually sat down and worked on the concept of Freddy's look, I think they will pull off a much creepier version that could look so nasty that you don't want to look at him, lol.

Yeah... But You Usually Always Hear Screams Everywhere In Gray. For Those Of You Who Don't Know The Area, Think God I Don't Live There, Gray Is One Area You Don't Wanna Be In.

Robert Englund an acting genius? Ha ha ha! Oh, my stomach is hurting. Holy crap. Ha ha ha! He was OKAY in NoES but he is far from an acting genius. I take it you have never seen him in anything else ever.
