EXCL: Saw VII Coming at You in 3-D

Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
July 31, 2009

Have you wondered why Saw VII was announced earlier than usual? It's because Twisted Pictures has something special in store for the 2010 entry written, once again, by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton.

Last night, during the Hollywood premiere of Dunstan's The Collector, I reconnected with the Twisted Pictures producing team who were able to confirm what I've been hearing about since January. A 3-D Saw sequel is coming...and it's likely going to be part 7.

They hustled to get Dunstan, Melton and returning director David Hackl aboard in preparation of the technical work that will be involved. Producer Mark Burg informed me they were looking at all of the 3-D options they have.

So in other words they've completely nuked the fridge.

Stop using that stupid saying - it won't catch on like jumping the shark.

Again, like the first film being re-done in 3D, whats the point? Saw isn't an amazingly beautiful film series, so what is the point?

I'm seriously over 3D - companies are falling back onto that rather than actually depending on a good story and great characters. Now it's a cookie-cutter story and cookie-cutter characters in amazing 3D.

Not worth $20 a ticket.

Posted by: AFuneralMaker on July 31, 2009 at 13:27:18

Who compared anything to Hostel...wtf are you talking about.

And of course it will be in 3D

Posted by: DarrenSuds on July 31, 2009 at 14:35:27

Saw is torture porn and Hostel is beautiful????? OK, hopefully you dont have kids. I liked both franchises but the bottom line is they are both nothing more than movies filled with creative kills.

First off, I am a fan of the Saw films (despite Saw III which turned a sub-plot into an entire movie). I like the movies more when they are psychological with good story (Saw I, of course) than gory, which is where I differ from many fans.

In my opinion:

The 3-D movie trend is simply a gimmick. It adds no depth to movies, and only annoys the honest moviegoer who went to relax and see something good, only to find they must wear annoying plastic glasses the whole way through. I feel no need to have blood and guts stupidly pop out of a Saw film.

If 3-D was at a technical standpoint where it were as if the audience was sitting inside a FULLY 3-D hologram, with action taking place all around them, that may be interesting, but sadly, today's 3-D effects are no better than the corny 3-D movies that came out in the '70s.

Pointless 3-D add-ons to animated movies may entertain six-year-olds, but they serve no purpose for more mature audiences.

All I can hope is that the Saw films won't turn into a likeness of the bastardization of horror movies that was My Bloody Valentine.

THIS IS JUST ONE MAN"S OPINION--opinion being the key word--AND DOES NOT WARRANT RESPONSE.

Whoa. Never compare Saw to Hostel. Ever. You want to know why Hostel only got one sequel, while Saw is getting at least six? It's because Saw has plot. A story to follow through multiple movies. And the only one that really disappointed was the fifth Saw. Hostel, on the other hand, was disappointing form the very first movie.

Gumby, you are an idiot. Saw has a plot. Hostel is torture porn. It's for sick freaks like you (gumby).

I'm getting sick of this 3D fad. I hope it dies soon, like it did in the 80's.

Posted by: Allan on July 31, 2009 at 18:13:23

Gay. only 3D ive been to is Nightmare before Christmas and thatll be the last.

Posted by: Mr Forcer on July 31, 2009 at 21:56:12

gumby - the fact that you can't even spell the word 'ridiculous' speaks volumes. Perhaps you should refrain from even attempting to offer your pathetic opinion on such movies. Go back to school retard!

Pass. 6 movies is enough.

and then i stopped watching them.

Posted by: That 80s Guy on August 1, 2009 at 11:26:33

To Allan and especially JOe, better get used to it because as far as I am concerned 3-D rules. They had to do something to keep the series alive. Heck they can do My Bloody Valentine and a handful of horror movies in 3-D they can do this and since its a better newer type of digital 3-D its not with those crappy 3-d glasses from the old days. It sounds promising.

put it out of its misery already. the first few films were decent. now its just ridiculus. talk about beating a dead horse.

Posted by: Dave on August 1, 2009 at 12:14:00

They are taking Saw and this 3-D fad way too far.

Posted by: thricethecarnage on August 1, 2009 at 13:42:07

do you morons have anything better to do than talk crap to each other on these boards? everyone has a different opinion, get used to it.

Posted by: Bruce Cambell is god on August 1, 2009 at 15:40:25

#-d sucks so much, if a movie comes out thats in 3-d I usually don't see it for that very reason.

And every horror franchise has done this at one point and that means they are out of ideas so I'm done with Saw, after 6.

Posted by: Brandon on August 1, 2009 at 15:57:05

Not too excited hearing about Saw VII. They had a good thing going with the first film and it should have stopped there. While I've seen all the sequels they're lacking in good story telling and good character development as each one goes on and only have the gore going for it which is a big problem nowadays with modern horror films. No one cares about a good story anymore. The only thing they have going for it is the 3-D.

Posted by: Klynsy on August 1, 2009 at 16:13:52

For those who hate 3-D...doesn't your theatre have the option of seeing it either way? Mine does. We can see it in 3-D or 2-D whenever a 3-D movie comes out...so what's the point of complaining?

Posted by: mike on August 1, 2009 at 19:58:55

enough of using retarded already. so we get it. you don't like someone else's comment. so you think it's okay to call them a retard? ugh.

Posted by: Causkimo on August 2, 2009 at 21:16:45

well whats there to say... i have been loyal to this whole series. i defended it against the people that were constantly complainin bout it, and i continued watchin it when the series started going downhill. but 3D??? Saw is dead to me now...
