EXCL: Screen Gems Moving Ahead with Underworld 4

August 8, 2009

ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned exclusively that Sony's Screen Gems is moving ahead with a fourth film in the "Underworld" franchise and is targeting a January 21, 2011 release. The movie will be shot in 3-D.

We've received no word yet if Underworld: Rise of the Lycans stars Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra, or former franchise stars Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman will return for the next film.

Back in February, we reported that the studio was pleased with the performance of the prequel that opened on January 23. The film was made for just $35 million and earned $91.1 million worldwide, not counting DVD and Blu-ray sales.

Stay tuned for more on the next installment as it comes in!

If Kate Beckensale comes back as Selene, I'm excited about it!

Stop making too many sequels. October 27th, buy and read the new fantasy book titled,
" Jack the Fish Boy " Now this is what Hollywood needs to be making! I Highly recommend it!

I bet the people who are tired of the 3D phase will have alot to say about this.
I didnt see the 3rd one yet, but I hope this one brings back Selene's character. This could be cool.

hell yeah the third one rocked.i just hope they do another prequel and call it the begining about corvinus, william, marcus, and victor. and a sequel two rise of the lycans would be good to about lucian, and kraven.really tired of the whole 3d band wagon that **** makes my eyes and head hurt, ill watch it in regular format.

AWESOME! i loved all 3 movies and i welcome a 4th (but i REALLY wish it wasn't going to be in 3D. 3D is a gimmick/novelty to me that THIS type of movie really doesn't need to be good/great.)

If they wrapped up the storyline and brought back Selene to finish it, then I'm all the way behind it. And if it's a 3D movie and not a movie made in 3D, then even better.

Part 3 was okay. Just a big love story going back to Victor's daughter and Lucien. I hope part 4 brings it back to the present and continues Selene's storyline.

Hey Guys,
How is this for a movie.
We see the movie form Amelia's point of view in America, with flashbacks from her past, and she vanquishes a evil in America and the ending see her taking her trip to Prague where she we all know is eventally killed.
Movies have been made about Selene, Marcus, Viktor, why not Amelia????
I think that would be a great movie

i agree with chris. i love all three movies so far and a movie that tells us what happens before rise of the lycans would be amazing. i mean, how did marcus and william come about? we know about their father, but what about the mother? and we saw how victor came about. but since when can vampires have kids? i would like to know about this. and i really wanna know what happens with selene and micheal. she killed marcus, so...does she die? can she go out in sunlight? she puts her hand in sunlight at the end of evolution, but what does it mean?

Posted by: Jenni on August 8, 2009 at 23:22:59

I think all three movies have been really great, however like everyone else I would really like to see what has happened with Selene and Micheal. I felt like in the second movie their story was left with so much hanging wide open...cannot wait to hear more on this!

SO WILL IT BE A SEQUAL TO UNDERWORLD EVOLUTIN?

Posted by: Rupert P. on August 9, 2009 at 03:35:14

One more thought on Kate coming back. The film will make more money. I have no doubt, that if she came back, it would be the highest grossing Underworld of them all. The last one was in fact good, and did well (but not as well as Evolution) despite Kate not being there. But each Resident Evil film has outperformed the last (when U.S. and international box office was combined). Same was happening with Underworld until the third one. But if Kate returns, expect this to outgross Evolution. Like Milla is to Alice, Kate is to Selene. It's a signature role. Everyone wins if she returns.

Yesssssssssssssssssssss,Sucked in to anyone who hate's the film's!(i love them).

Rise of the Lycans was a great movie, and it's a shame that people are so stupid that they wouldn't go see it just because Kate Beckinsale wasn't in it.

It was a BACKSTORY, a prequel, she wasn't supposed to be in it.

I suppose people would have rather seen the backstory on her character, instead of how the Vampires and Lycans came to be at war with each other.

So, people didn't give The Rise of the Lycans a chance.

They won't give this one a chance either, without "Selene".

Ridiculous.

For the record, the only way Kate will be back is if they either abandon the prequels and move back to present day, or if they do a split time line where a lot of the film is in flash back or a history telling. I for one believe they may go after the latter, if they feel they need Selene, but either way the prequel idea may work at least one more time and regardless of whether they use Selene and the "flashback" format or just center it solely in the past, the era most likely will be around the time when the Death Dealers stormed Lucian's castle. The dealings between Kraven and Lucian would make for interesting sidebars.

Why do people like this movie series when in the very first movie the Hulk is in it?

--------------------------------------------------

I feel dumber having read that.

BUT.. Seriously.. I have gotten a major thrill out of this series so far!! Admittedly I was pissed when it was Sony ripping off White Wolf Publishing at first. Being an old V:tM player and all.

But, they've done an awesome job on this. And whether it's another prequel or the next part of Selene/Michael's story... I'll be there.

as long as its a continuation of evolution it should be ok i dont think they should milk the franchise but as long as the story continues just dont go back anymore and bring on more villains...

I am a big "Underworld" fan. I watch 1 & 2 every otherday, along with Van Helsing. I liked "Rise of the Lycans," but lets be real, Kate is a better vampire/werewolf slayer. Her career in action vampire/werewolf killing movies are excellent. "Rise of the Lycans," was good, but I thought maybe it should have been under another title or in atitle of its own as a branch off from "Underworld." It really only made money based off the fact people were looking to see what happened with Selene & Micheal. I think "Rise of the Lycans," should have been made and put in theatres, but if it were just under "Rise of the Lycan," (all the fans would have known what the movie was related to) it would have also created its own fan base to branch off and hear the point of view from Amelia, Craven, or the Corvinous family and it wouldn't take away from people hoping Kate will return, it would definitely keep us busy until she does. I would surely watch all those points of views because I am a true fan and I'd have more stories and thrills from the producer & director to put in my movie library. This is just my thoughts about it!

I think the obvious next step would be to tell the story that leads up to Kraven making the deal with Lucian, and Lucian starting to look for Michael Corbin, since that's where the first movie picks up the story.

Posted by: Jo Kizzle on August 10, 2009 at 01:29:44

This all depends on the time-frame and plot of the 4th installment. If you use your common sense you would obviously know that they cannot use Rhona anymore, for 2 reasons. 1) She DIED in RotL 2) If the 4th movie takes place any time after that, see first reason. If they were to use Rhona they would have to go back in time AGAIN and that would just make everything very.. uninteresting. I wouldn't mind seeing the gap between RotL and Underworld where Viktor picks up Selene and even more detail on William. This is an useless post (Still can't use Rhona).

Posted by: Michael on August 10, 2009 at 12:58:13

The door for Rhona can still be open. She didn't turn to dust like every other killed vampire in ROTL. There was also something else strange about her death, although I can't recall it at the moment. Will need to watch again.

If a resurrection is possible, then it could happen at any time, including the time of kate's character. A 4th movie that includes both Kate and Rhona... that's a ticket I'd pre-order.

The stories behind these movies are very solid, but I hate the CGI werewolves.
