Haley Talks Fan Reaction To Nightmare Trailer

We bumped into actor Jackie Earle Haley at last night's 2009 Scream Awards and before bringing up anything Nightmare related, this writer couldn't help but tell him how much I loved him in Maniac Cop 3. "Oh geez," he laughs, slightly caught off guard. "That’s awesome!"

Ever since the debut of the trailer for Platinum Dunes reboot of A Nightmare On Elm Street, reaction has been fairly positive to Haley's portrayal of the new Freddy Krueger. We asked for his thoughts on the fan reaction thus far. "I think it's awesome and it feels great," he says. "I think the trailer looks really good. I know there’s a lot of people out there that wished it was Robert (Englund) and I get that, I completely understand that. He really made the character incredibly iconic. He’s iconic as well, so for me, it’s just such a real honor to get to step in and have a go at that character. I think it’s looking pretty good."

"I look at Freddy as a mystical boogeyman," he continues. "The guy you hear the camp fire story about that we love to hate. As fans, those stories make us giggle. It’s wonderful to do something with this kind of hyper reality in the genre. People like to enter that in a Nightmare film, to be entertained, but I don’t think anybody would want to be there in real life!"

He always come off so gentle and meek. He's one of those people I wouldn't mind actually knowing. I felt mixed about the trailer. I think it is very stylish, but I am still on the fence. I don't really like the way he looks, and I am not crazy about the voice. But I am willing to give it a shot and try to have an open mind.

They played everything too safe, too close to the original. They needed to reboot and make it their own. They failed with this one.

How can so many people assume they failed when they have not seen the final product. Just like how people hate on something not even released yet. Give it a chance and then make a judgement. ANOES was the first horror movie I saw as a kid and I still love it, but the sequels got lame and tired. This series deserves a fresh start. And Freddy needs to be creepy again. Nothing creepy about him in the last 3 + sequels, just really campy and bad.

I don't care how big a fan you are of the original movie, you HAVE to admit the ending is a mess and makes NO sense.

If anything, maybe they can actually get the ending right this time. The first NIGHTMARE's a great movie up until that last 5 minutes...

"...reaction has been fairly positive to Haley's portrayal of the new Freddy Krueger" AND IN WHAT WORLD are they living in? There are mostly grips and such of varying degrees about his look and portrayal. smh i tell you the media ain't ****.

Haley rules. and you know it.

Jackie will rule this movie. He's an Oscar nominated actor. I don't think they could have cast it better. Also, I learned from Heath Ledger to never judge something until you have something to judge. Heath ruled as the Joker and I was skeptical. Big leeson to be learned.
