This year we've seen a glut of "trailers" for new horror novels, from Guillermo Del Toro's "The Strain" to the latest "Dracula" book. Stephen King's next massive tome, "Under the Dome," hits bookshelves on the 10th of this month and publisher Scribner posted a preview on YouTube teasing some of the chaos in the tale. By massive, we mean massive, the book clocks in at 1088 pages and has taken some time for King to complete.
Synopsis: On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when--or if--it will go away.
Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens--town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing--even murder--to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Cannot wait for this book. I rarely to never buy hardbacks brand new, but I will make another exception (The first being The Lost Symbol in September) to get this King novel.

Sounds cool, may look into getting it after I'm finished Chuck Palahniuk's Pigmy.

Hey did not rip off the Simpsons movie. It was a project he started working on back in the 70s.

Oh yeah, Steve P. Simpsons Movie came out in 2007, and it took Stephen King 2 years to write a 1000-plus page book. He isn't Dean Koontz, you know.

Steven King is and always has been overrated. His horror is something a 12 year old would think of. Steven King couldnt hold Clive Barkers jock strap.
Steven King is popular for the same reason the blue collar comedy comedians are- there simple. Steven writes simple horror just like the blue collar comedy guys write simple comedy. Middle america is easily scared and easily ammused. Unfortunately thats a huge audience. And its why we have garbage like Dane Cook hogging the spotlight.

Wow...Calling SK's novels simple makes me wonder if you've ever even read one of his novels. Because if you have, you wouldn't be calling them "simple horror".
And by the way, if you're going to insult him, you could at least spell his name right...

It's so funny with all these people comparing a horror novel with The Simpsons movie. It's as silly as saying the movie The Money Pit copied The Amityville Horror, because both movies were about a house. Internet are full of morons

I didn't see the Simpson's movie. I am surprised people aren't comparing this to Paulie Shore's Biodome.
King is the best, hands down. For all that think his work is "simple" read IT, The Stand, then the Gunslinger series. Don't judge his work by the poor movies and TV shows made.

Stphen King's work is "simple". Read a Clive Barker horror novel and you will realize how simple and unimaginative Stephen King's novels are. Sorry for insulting your hero Stephen King, its just that Clive Barkers way better novels have me spoiled i guess. If novels got ratings a Stephen King horror novel would be rated PG. A Clive Barker novel would be NC-17. Stephen King writes stories a 9 year old could read. Clive Barker writes stories you wouldnt want a 9 year old to know about. lol. Sorry but true.

Clive Barker is good, no doubt about that. He writes some interesting, quirky little tales, I'll give him that. I thought Mr B Gone was pretty good. But with the exception of the Hellbound Heart, he's not epic. The Stand is epic, The Dark Tower series is epic, Carrie is epic, Talisman is epic, I could go on but I think you get my drift.
Point being, the man may call himself a hack, but no one has ever gotten the kind of recognition and career that Stephen King has by being a hack. If he was a hack he would have been popular for maybe a year or two, but would have faded away fast, once people got tired of him. The fact of the matter is, it's 35 years later and his books are STILL in high demand. There's a reason for that. Same reason a lot of bands which were playing 30 years ago are still touring today, where as the new bands today are lucky to last 3 years. It's all about quality.
