Haley Krueger Used to Promote Original Nightmare DVDs

Insanity.

New Line is taking the opportunity to re-release the eight films in their wildly successful Nightmare on Elm Street franchise in a new DVD box set that's arriving on April 6. That's to be expected with the Platinum Dunes-produced A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot coming along on April 30. New Line hasn't packaged all of the films together as a set since they released that black-boxed, beautiful special edition collection in '99. (Since then the films have been paired up, two or four films per disc.)

But here's the beef we have: New Line is clearly using the new Jackie Earle Haley Freddy Krueger on their box art, as seen below. The glove has obviously been retooled in Photoshop. But that's Haley/Krueger's head. Say what you will about the reboot - whether you love the idea or hate it - Robert Englund should be represented on this DVD. Shame, shame...

On the same day, New Line is also releasing the original Nightmare on Elm Street on Blu-Ray.

That's ****ed up.

Boo! Would never had happened if Bob Shaye was still around.

That's crap. The Re make looks terrible so far and Freddy looks stupid. Don't ruin the classics with this trash.

It's the first Jackie Earle Haley promotional still with a badly photoshopped version of the original glove. Nice job, WB!

Posted by: paul lewis on January 7, 2010 at 17:10:37

if that is so why has he got on the glove worn by englund on have a look

Posted by: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor on January 7, 2010 at 17:14:07

@Paul - Because they put it on with Photoshop. Poorly done, too.

Posted by: Jonesy on January 7, 2010 at 17:26:43

Complete c**k up. Englund should sue. And he'd win.

Posted by: madashell on January 7, 2010 at 17:32:29

Don't buy it folks! So LAME! You already own it, so don't buy this crap!

Posted by: Barry on January 7, 2010 at 17:39:36

If this isn't the biggest slap in the face. People didn't like Englund being replaced in the first place, and now this. Those original Elm Street movies WERE Robert Englund, and to be discarded like that is unspeakable. Robert, Wes, and Bob Shaye should be vocal about this. I know Wes is already cold towards the new movie, but he and Robert should really not stand for this utter lack of regard of Robert and the franchise. Disgusting!.

Thank god I already have the DVD set. If I didn't, I wouldn't buy this.

SWEET MOTHER OF GOD!!!!! I already own this thing!!!! PLUS HOW DARE THEY SCREW ROBERT OVER LIKE THAT?!?!?!?!?!? My GOD!!!!! But come April 6th, I will be broke as ****....

Posted by: joe asylo on January 7, 2010 at 18:31:53

englund will always be the man with the claw

Posted by: David Strohmenger on January 7, 2010 at 19:00:11

They kind of did the same thing with the previous special edition DVD of the first film. The front had Freddy from Freddy vs Jason and the back had him from a different film (I think it was from Dream Master). At least they were Englund.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. This is so thoughtless of them. New Line just keeps insulting the fans, over and over and over again.

If you all want to see a good new Elm Street movie that honors Freddy, Robert, and everything that made those films great, go to anightmarereborn.com

Stupid New Line, trying to promote their reboot.

Is it just me or does the pinky finger of the glove look like it's twisted around backwards?

Posted by: hyde on January 7, 2010 at 21:34:26

All the blades are backwards!!!! LOL.

Posted by: terry on January 7, 2010 at 22:06:43

Looks awesome as **** but I already own the one that came out in 99 . Can't afford multiple box-sets of the same movies. Love the artwork tho!!! Cant wait for the re-boot to hit theaters

Posted by: space on January 7, 2010 at 22:13:38

Don't own any of these movies yet, so I'll either buy this box set or the original on Blu-ray. Haven't made up my mind yet.

On another note, Jackie Earl Haley is a great actor. Some of you need to lighten up and give the man a chance instead of just writing it off.

Robert Englund can't be Freddy in movies forever.

Posted by: ..Michael Myers.. on January 7, 2010 at 22:20:11

That's just foul. I understand that theres a new Freddy, but they still need to give credit where credit is due. Robert Englund DESERVES to be on that cover because those are HIS classics, not JEH. Also, how in the blue hell can you miss a finger going the wrong way!?!?! Who hires these dumb@sses and how could anyone let obvious mistakes like this get pass them? Shame indeed.

Posted by: Tony Hillis on January 7, 2010 at 22:42:14

wow... that's just plain bad. its like they took his left hand and reversed it to use on the right. haha

...all controversy aside, regarding the ludicrous use of the Jackie Earle Haley 'Freddy' image on the intended box set re-issue of the Robert England-starring series, I find myself very hard-pressed to consider re-investing in these films again, unless each of the DVDs and/or BDs have some respectably new and interesting extras...over and above all of the extras, which were included not only on the double-disc special edition of the original 'Elm Street', but also, the extra disc on the '99 box set...called 'Nightmare Encyclopedia'...you know, the one where you had to make your way through a delapitated, broken-down building/maze, where a multitude number of clues would reveal segments of behind-the-scenes footage and promos. Let's face it: you're already dissing an disrespecting the devoted fans of the classic series, New Line, with this intended box set artwork; to NOT come up with a super-wham-a-dime, 'everything, including the kitchen sink', 'chuckful of not only previous extras, but also brand new extras, bells & whistles' box set, would be an absolutely unforgivable crime...worthy of terminal disembowlment by ol' Freddy, himself...

Posted by: FrightFilmFan on January 7, 2010 at 23:29:20

...and so, New Line...it has come to this, huh?? That 'The House That Freddy Built', is becoming 'The House That Tore Freddy Down'....oh, the shame of it all....

i have seen the first film and the subsequent films that have followed and the horrid freddy v. jason; but none of the sequals have captured the magic of the first film and i have seen the trailer for the reboot and the making of and i have found a new found excitment for this film i eagerly await it has made me feel like a teenager again cannot wait

to robert england, i have enjoyed him as freddy each and every time but if he can find piece with a new freddy then why can't the fans

let it be see, the film, and save the bull**** for some other crap

Posted by: SteveW on January 8, 2010 at 03:36:39

They are just ****ting all over Robert Englund, first they steal his role from him and give it to Jackie Earle Haley and now when they re-release the original Nightmare on Elm Street Films in a new box set they use Jackie's Freddy to promote it. They are spiting in Robert Englund's face. That is just bull****.

Seriously? The blades are backwards.
