Guillermo del Toro fans everywhere likely carried a smile on their face the rest of the afternoon when news broke yesterday the director was in the early stages of a "Frankenstein" adaptation. (Read the full story here.) And why not? The man has managed to balance elements of the fantastic and the macabre for years. "Frankenstein," in his hands, feels natural - even if we have seen the material regurgitated on the small and big screen since Thomas Edison and J. Searle Dawley's adaptation in 1910.

When he spoke to MTV, Del Toro stated "the only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries." He added a "but" shortly after saying that, leading us to think he still has a feature film in mind.

This morning a reliable tipster told us Del Toro is considering combining elements of "Frankenstein" and "Bride of Frankenstein" into a single movie. One can only imagine what Del Toro could do with the Dr. Pretorius (made famous by actor Ernest Thesiger) and his personal scientific experiments!

It was made quite clear in yesterday's news item that not a lot of progress can be made on "Frankenstein" until the WGA strike clears up. Stay tuned for more info as it comes in...
