You read that right, boys and girls. CineTel Films have picked up the rights to the controversial 1978 rape-revenge film I Spit On Your Grave from the original's writer-director Meir Zarchi.

the first film was okay and a remake well..... WHY IN THE HELL IS HOOLYWOOD REMAKEING OLD **** i think people need to come up with new **** i dont think anyone saw the first one but me the three other people that saw it with me and the people who made it need i say more, i think not but if you have nothing else to do watch the original and make your own jugdement its not all that great and its not all that and a bag of chips.

Well bgutta, I'm glad I could be one of the three other people. And I agree, they need to stop with the remakes. On the other hand, they could remake this one, and no one would really know it was a remake. People should see the original though. It's not scary. Not that gory. But it will leave you plenty creeped out and uneasy. Good story. Plus it would really piss me off to see them remake this just for the sole purpose of making it more gory, more bloody, and too much like other films today. Look at the SAW franchise... Great story, but do they continue with great story? No, they just add more gore and shock value. Screw story.

Noooooo! Why? It doesn't need to be remade! It was 'great' as is, for all its faults, it was a good watch. The new one, I can guarantee you, won't have the same spirit

I thought the castration scene in ISOYG was creepier and more cringe-inducing than the pseudo one in Hard Candy.

do we really need this - I saw the original and have it on dvd but I def wouldn't go see a more gorier version/remake - the original is bad enough especially the rape scene - for god sake how graphic do we have to go before people get sick of this and demand descent stories

"Producers want to up the shock factor"
HOW?!?!?!
Posted by: Sean D. on June 4, 2008 at 09:48:50
"Producers want to up the shock factor" ?
Direct to DVD no doubt.
Interestingly enough, the original has been touted as a feminist film in recent years - something I am afraid I disagree with (Keaton's third act turn into Ms. 45 doesn't for me cloak what's on display in the previous 2/3's - scene upon scene of sensationalized misogyny, brutality and rape, all delivered with a mean spirit).
Would such a film even be able to garner an R rating from the MPAA in today's present climate?

And what's the verdict on that box-art? Was it ever established if that is indeed Demi Moore's derriere (as rumoured), standing in for Keaton's?

I never saw it, but remember t sitting on the shelf in its "porno size box for rent at he record store I worked at. Knowing its cult classic status, why mess with it? This is out of control with the remakes. I hope it does go str8 to DVD. The str8 to DVD market is almost as lucrative if not more so to make $$$

I seriously doubt this will go into theaters. This movie was brutal and crazy.I do love how it turned into a revenge flick though. She came back and got everyone of them basterds back. The bathtub seen was the most crinchiest part of the movie. This and Last House on the Left are the two movies that still stick in my head today.I'll check out the remakes though just for the hell of it.

The original was cheap exploitation masquerading as feminist revenge. It was campy and admittedly fun to watch on a low budget level and yes, the scenes of rape and castration were genuinely squeamish and horrific. But I don't see how the producers could take a possible remake and make it new and refreshing for todays sophisticated horror fans. In this day and age of extreme movie violence and real life violence just a click away on the world wide web, anything resembling the original film would just feel dated.

People come up with new stuff all the time, it's just that Hollywood won't spend any money purchasing those stories! The only place to see new material is in the indie market, and that's filled with nth zombie movie these days.

Christ man. Why make it over again, i mean seriously this movie is ok that way it made. Look i don't know if ye guys know yer history, but on the year, that was film, women rights, what all about. Now there ain't nothing like that, sure Hillary is running for office but doesn't give ya the right, to keep supporting her. Bottom line, the cannibal holocaust remake, Deathnote remake, now this. Oh for pity Christ people, just hire me, i tell ya how to make a scary movie. period.

Another movie not to see.
I would challenge people here to from this point on, we don't see remakes in the theater. If you need to see it badly, either sneak in or wait for the DVD. Do NOT give them any money to see it.
But as long as they make money from us, they will keep making these.

"and not have to aim for an NC-17 or X rating,"
Which defeats the ****ING PURPOSE.

if you'll notice, this page has more comments on it than any of the pages about original movies. now i wonder producers keep remaking, and media outlets keep reporting.

Marvolo, you're absolutely right... And while we try to be incredibly well-rounded by covering both original productions and remakes, I'll tell you that some of our most read stories in the history of Shock are about remakes and sequels. Go figure.

Cool,I love the remakes and I have no problem with them.It actually lets some of our generation enjoy some of the stuff that came out when most of us were just babys.I did used to watch a lot of the originals with my dad.I just wish they would keep the R ratings instead of always aiming for the pg13 crap and get a lot more violent, demented, and gory.I want to see some **** come out that will put the everlasting fear back into people. The type of movie where your like "whoa, what the **** just happened, that **** was messed up"I want to see movie giving people nightmares again. After all, something needs to put some fear back into this country spoiled ass population again.SoyG was very violent, but not scary. It still stuck out though and was a damn good revenge flick.I just hope the chic has less hair in this one.The older version,ol girl looked like she had a racoon sitting in her lap. That's all
