Kirschner, Mancini on Child's Play Remake

Source:AICN
August 19, 2008

Producer David Kirschner and Chucky creator Don Mancini updated AICN on their proposed Child's Play remake which we first alerted you on last October. As specified before, Mancini will write and direct the reboot.

Mancini tells the site, "I think what we are mainly responding to, David and I, is the will of the fans, which is really telling us that they want to see a scary Chucky movie again. They want to go back to the straightforward horror rather than the horror comedy."

And don't fret, Kirschner assures fans Brad Dourif will return as the voice of the killer doll who has appeared in four sequels since the original Child's Play opened in 1988.

"Who would you get that's better?" Kirschner questions. "I mean with Chucky so much of it...and David and I talk about this a lot, that because he's a puppet, there's an aspect of him that feels like he's an animated character, so his voice is such an immense part of it as well as what he looks like. It's almost like recasting Homer Simpson or something. If you could recast it, you would want the actor to sound kind of like it, but it would feel weird to just be completely different I think."

Mancini adds deals with Universal are being locked down now and that the new film will likely hit in 2010. For the full interview click here!

Hell yeah! I can't freakin' wait. Hopefully it'll be earlier 2010 rather than later, but I can't complain. It's being made so I'm ecstatic. I think this is one of very few times when I'm actually excited for a remake.

Great NEWS...
The horror world needs a new face of scares. All the gore and swearing just doesn't compare to the old style screams and pain in each victim throghout the original masterpieces...

I can't wait to see it.. But hopes still ask that it doesn't screw up like the other remakes have lately.
( In a side note i'd love to get the chance to be a part of the new movie... if anyone can send details on 'HOW I CAN' i'd love to hear it)

When remakes are announced, everybody goes, "What are they out of ideas?" Usually, no. They're just money hungry.

In the case of Chucky's creators, they're both. The last two Chucky movies were a pathetic excuse to make money, and now they're going to rape their own movie to make more.

Why not just stop? Why not go, hey, let's come up with a new, fresh villain, instead of rehashing the same ****?

And the above two commentators are idiots.

calm down with the all CAPS

If they want to make a "scary Chucky" movie for the fans again, why not just make another direct sequel and re-invent like Rocky Balboa did for that series, going back to the roots?

A remake will most likely be super lame fan-feeding junk that will ruin any depth the franchise had like Halloween did last August...

Can't wait! Child's Play is one of my favorite movies, so naturally I was hesitant about a remake. But since Mancini is coming back and Dourif will be voicing Chucky again...why not love a remake?

I didn't get it back then and I don't get it now - a killer doll? Anyone that gets killed by a 3 ft "My Buddy" deserves to be sent to heaven on the short bus.

...Unless he's more cerebral and manipulative like Hannibal Lecter. Where he's pulling other people's strings as opposed to scampering about with an itty-bitty knife.

Umm its not a My Buddy doll. Its a Good Guy doll. Jeez if you're gonna insult something, do it right

A killer doll cerebral and manipulative? I can see him manipulating Andy, maybe, but I am afraid my image of Chucky as a psychological manipulator ends there.

On a side note, it's encouraging to me that it is the film's original creator that is looking to do the reboot, not some studio execs far removed from the creation of the character--as in the case of Michael Bay and Nightmare. I'd be willing to see before I'd be willing to see that.

Listen im so sick and tired of everyone saying "their making a remake Sh1t" "that sux"....im sorry but those who havent liked the "texas chainsaw massacre" and the "Halloween" remakes r out of their minds....(ur dumb as sh1t) if both of those movies came out that day....4 the first time ever u would love them....clear ur head when u c a movie act like u've never seen it....i hated "texas chainsaw massacre" till the remake "shut up

Posted by: Saad on August 20, 2008 at 11:32:50

To PEASLAP: Snap out of it and shut the hell up,you're not the damn movie taste police.
What makes you think that you have the right to tell people what movies they should watch??
If you don't want to watch remakes of certain movies then stick to the originals of them.

I like what Kirschnir and Mancini had to say, but it's too early for me to say yes or no to this. Normally I would say no, but the idea of Dourif remaining the voice of Chucky, and the creator's wish to get back to "straightforward horror", actually interests me enough to cross my fingers.
P.S. Learn to write, people. Just because you're not in school, doesn't give you an excuse to be lazy. If you want to express an opinion, at least TRY to sound intelligent.

I cant wait for this, mostly because Mancini and Dourif are still attached.

Posted by: ZerO on August 20, 2008 at 20:23:29

If they had to recast the voice Keifer Sutherland would make a good choice. Liked his voice in Phonebooth.

Posted by: ico on August 20, 2008 at 20:59:30

I dont think Sutherland would do a good job cause his voice is too monotone.

Posted by: Ryan on August 20, 2008 at 21:27:57

nah Sutherland's voice is awesome but not creepy enough for chucky.

Child's Play remake. Jeezus. Lame. Shouldn't something be significant before it's remade? Like Chainsaw, Halloween or Friday the 13th? I mean... Child's Play? What's next? Let's remake Phantasm? Hellraiser? The Hills Have Eyes? (oh wait).

hey they re also remaking rosemary baby.
did ya knbow that.

one minute you guys are saying "oh, this sounds good!" and the next "it sucks"....just get over it.

At least we're getting more horror movies out on the market...btw, remakes aren't that horrible.

I'm excited that I still get to pay $7 to go watch enjoy it rather than complain. All you're doing is showing how bi-polar and childish you are.

This post is for us to voice our concerns and feelings about these movies, thats it's purpose, so why dont you take you're own advice and stop complaining.
