The cast of True Blood will be returning in 2009 for a second season.

HBO announced today that it has renewed the Alan Ball-produced vampire series which aired its second episode last Sunday. According to a press release, the series' viewership increased 24% in its second chapter. Repeat airings throughout this week have been reportedly strong as well.

Based on the novels Charlaine Harris, the series follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a barmaid living in Louisiana who can read people's minds, and how her life is turned upside down when she begins to swoon for a vampire named Bill (Stephen Moyer).

Filming on the second season will begin early next year.

Not that I don't like the show, but I find it interesting that after 2 episodes it gets a renewal and shows like John from Cincinatti have to show an entire season before they get axed. By the way, the reviews for this show are just as negative if not more than John. Sorry to rant, I just personally loved that show.

Turned this one off halfway through the second episode.

Vampires caring about how they are percieved by humans? Alan Ball really took the fangs off the beast here. It is the weakest incarnation of the creature I've seen.

I watched the first episode and I wasn't impressed. I thought the whole story was lackluster and the characters were terrible.

I love this show! I just hope that Bill sticks around for a while. I started reading the books and then looked up Stephen Moyer on IMDB and started to worry a little when I saw that he only has eight episodes this season....

True Blood is freaken awesome! The characters are believeable, the scenery is beautiful and the story is tragic. I'm glad it already got picked up for a second season! Keep up the excellent work!
