Trick 'r Treat Chapter Closed for Dougherty

"I got the reaction I wanted and then some," enthused Michael Dougherty when ShockTillYouDrop.com caught up to him immediately after the Los Angeles screening of
Trick 'r Treat at Screamfest.
"This was probably the best experience I've had watching this movie and I've watched it a lot. I, honestly, was afraid I'd be spending time in the lobby with my head in my hands but this feels like redemption of some sort."
"I was surprised by moments in the film I didn't think anybody would catch, especially the humorous moments," he continues.
"There's a scene when [actor] Dylan Baker suddenly realizes what he's gotten himself into...to me there are jokes in that that I thought I was the only one who would see it, but the audience's reaction was great It definitely feels like I'm closing the chapter and I can move on to the other projects. Whatever happens with [Trick 'r Treat] from this point onward, great."
Unfortunately, the writer-director of, what I feel, is one of the best horror films in some time, is not aware of what Warner Bros. intends to do with his picture now. He told me a few suits from the studio and co-producer Legendary Pictures was in the house for the L.A. event.
"They've generally been supportive. It's the people in the upper-echelons of the studio who make the decision as to what's going to happen [with the release]. And you find a lot of your bigger supporters come from the lower levels who are all asking why this isn't getting released. The Legendary guys have been fantastic from the beginning, they pushed to get it made.".
Next up for Dougherty on the feature film front is
Calling All Robots, his motion-capture effort for Robert Zemeckis that he's co-penning with Breehn Burns and Simeon Wilkins. He's also got a TV series called
Bitches in the pipeline at Fox -

I remember seeing the trailer to this almost a year ago. I WANT TO SEE IT ALREADY. If not this Halloween at least next Halloween.
It looks eerie, spooky, and potentially mortifying. Hopefully they release this film at the right time and the marketing team brews up something awesome.
Trick 'r Treat has great potential!

From what I've seen of the pictures and trailer of this film it looks like it is going to be fantastic! It should have been released as a halloween film where it would rake in the most money. I mean what drugs are these execs taking not releasing a halloween themed film on the holiday? WTF?

Was lucky enough to have been there on Friday to see this screening...I was expecting great and I ended up getting incredible. As good as you think it's going to be from the trailer and screen shots, I promise its even better. I can say that I can see where WB is coming from by not backing this movie, which I won't get into, but it is a huge mistake because this movie would kill at the box office. This is one that people will be still watching on Halloween night 20 years from now.

From what I have seen it is great. Come on WB! Release this film!

JUDSON, can you explain this please, "I can say that I can see where WB is coming from by not backing this movie, which I won't get into, but it is a huge mistake because this movie would kill at the box office."?
i'm just curious as to what you mean. you're saying the movie is incredible and will "kill at the B.O." but you understand why WB ISN'T backing it?
HUH?

DJ,
An explination on why I think WB isn't backing the film would be laden with spoilers, which is why I said I won't go into it. Before seeing it I had no idea at all why WB would pull what they've pulled, after seeing it there's a few reasons I can see why. If you've seen it lets discuss off the board. If not, when you do watch it you'll probably see where I'm coming from.

chances are we're not going to see it at this rate, so it sucks that we'll never know what the hell Judson is referring to.
C'mon WB, I don't care if you throw this in every dollar theater in the country, I want to see it SOME HOW.

I caught the NYC premiere on Monday night. The actual screening was really poorly managed -- they overbooked it and a lot of folks were standing. But it's an amazing movie, everyone. Great fun. The studio's made/making a terrible mistake by not releasing it. But the big studios have some really confused ideas about what a horror movie should be and I can sort of see why they're skittish about putting this out there. (I've got a horror movie in development at a big studio so I've had to deal with it myself.)

Looks like I'll be keeping tabs on any showings of this on the festival front. I NEED to see this now!

Wanna see this movie get released? All someone has to do is get a decent bootleg from one of the screenings and get it out on the black market. Once the soulless studio jerks see other people making "their" money, they'll get that movie out on DVD pronto. Cash is the only thing these guys respond to.

Yeah, Ryan, the whole thing was a complete mess. I've never been to a more poorly managed screening. I have no idea what they were doing -- it was like a friggin film school screening. Me and my buddy were standing throughout. We didn't stay for the Q&A coz we were kinda fed up with the experience. (Even though we both liked the movie.)
