Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com
October 28, 2008

Update: See below for a list of special features!

ShockTillYouDrop.com has received early word that Lionsgate is prepping a special edition DVD of George Mihalka's 1981 slasher film My Bloody Valentine. The arrival of this presentation, of course, is to coincide with the January 16th bow of My Bloody Valentine 3D, so look for the DVD in stores on January 13th.

Special features will include never-before-seen lost footage, a featurette examining the back history of the making of the film and the Ultimate Slasher interactive guide that allows the user to delve into the evolution of the slasher film/horror genre.

Awwww, dammit! I just bought the My Bloody Valentine/April Fool's Day double feature disc this past summer! Oh well..., this is the Special Edition and to me Special Editions trumps bare bones any day with me.

if this has the deleted footage we've heard about for YEARS, i'm in. i know the movie itself (for THIS 'Special Edition') runs 90 minutes. the same running time as the version that's been out forever. so the (if it's true) footage/scenes WON'T be restored back in to this movie. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be the uncut footage that's going to be on the bonus features.

I never saw the original so this looks cool.

So there is a positive side to all the remakes...the originals get new DVD love. I'll take it. Already own the bare bones but I love this film so if deleted scenes are on board then so am I. What'd be even better is if they just released a full uncut version, but beggers can't be choosers I suppose.

I know this special edition is a Lionsgate release, but i am stunned to find out that Paramount pictures actually had deleted footage saved up !!!

Paramount pictures is notorious for giving us the shaft when it comes to special editions and uncut footage.

hope Lionsgate actually does have something .

Uncut? There's no point in just adding the cut scenes as special features, they should be incorporated back into the film.

Like all things, DVD productions work on a budget. If the deleted scenes are incorporated back in, that's a costly thing to do. They might not have the budget to do that for this disc. Then again, they might. Not sure. Either way, I'll be happy to see the possible deleted scenes, integrated into the film or as deleted scenes in the special features section.

Seeing them in the film where they belong would be better, but even as deleted scenes I'm sure some fan will cut them back in.

I'll definitely be picking this one up! My Bloody Valentine is probably one of my favorite horror movies from the 80s. A few years ago, I found the bare bones DVD version in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart (along with the bare bones version of April Fool's Day...not in the same package, but separate DVDs). This is a movie I would be willing to buy more than once!

Holy Valentines! Let's hope for a Mihalka commentary (Even John Dunning would be cool) and the extra footage.

Always enjoyed this one, but haven't seen it for years. Will probably pick this edition up when it's released.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet

Lions Gate... if you simply include the lost footage as extras and don't edit it back into the film... you're going to suffer a backlash unlike anything you've ever seen. You're skating on VERY thin ice by taking this film on. DO IT JUSTICE.

Posted by: djblack1313 on October 28, 2008 at 20:44:16

Shlockjock81, if Lionsgate didn't worry about screwing over (and pissing of fans of) Midnight Meat Train, REPO!, The Burrowers etc. then they aren't going to be concerned on a movie 20 years old (nor it's fans).

also, maybe the footage isn't in good enough quality to seamlessly edit it back in to the film. just a theory.

I think this release is really worthless if it isnt the uncut version. Hell, the director wanted so much to release the uncut version and lose all connection with Paramount well he got what he wanted by getting rid of Paramount but now he is gonna release the version of the film that we already have and put some so called "lost footage" as a special feature. I dont think so! It just makes the director seem like such a hypocrite!

Posted by: Ron Ferrell on October 29, 2008 at 10:14:35

I'll be getting this for sure.

Rented this flick on Netflix and I have to say I loved the original My Bloody Valentine. The original was so violent and unforgiving. Hopefully there will be an uncut version and I can't wait to get the Special Edition as well as see the 3D remake in theaters.

oh man, I hope this will have the deleted scenes, I scene pictures a while ago of some of the stuff that was cut out and they were awesome, look very bloody! I read in the article that this movie was so much more bloodier than released, but had to be cut because of the ratings!

Posted by: ico on October 29, 2008 at 16:03:49

Like i said before, i never saw the original.

Whats this infamous deleted footage that people keep talking about?

Posted by: Doctor Splatten on October 30, 2008 at 01:50:22

Well, at least some good came out of the remake. Can't wait to see the "lost" footage!!!Why isn't Paramount putting this out?
