Poster Debut for Edgar Allan Poe's Ligeia

Source:IMP Awards
February 12, 2009

An official one-sheet for Edgar Allan Poe's Ligeia and, as you can see, it's vastly different from the early art we brought to you last November. Still no word on distribution, however.

Based on the classic Edgar Allan Poe short story "Ligeia," the film is about a young, successful writer and scholar, Jonathan Merrick, who happens to fall under the spell of the bewitchingly, irresistibly beautiful Ligeia. Ligeia knows that she will die of a rare cancer and has decided to fight death by using her mystic powers to drive the soul from the human body, contain it and use its energy to transfer her own spirit so that she can become immortal. Ligeia pulls Jonathan into her dark, goth world and takes him away from his fiancée Rowena. Obsession takes over love and even after Ligeia's dramatic death, she continues to haunt Jonathan driving him to the brink of insanity.

Wes Bentley, Michael Madsen, Eric Roberts, Sofya Skya and Kaitlin Doubleday star.

"...and has decided to fight death by using her mystic powers..."

I'm sure it was a difficult decision too. Chemo, Radiation, mystic powers? Hmmm? Chemo causes me to lose my hair, Radiation makes me puke, but mystic powers have no real side-effect what-so-ever AND they are half the calories of regular beer. Mystic powers it is!

Sad, pathetic Hollywood moneygrabbers. I've had it with bull**** horror movies that neither scare me or hold my attention for more than a minute. Sounds like an attemt to make a crow-lite horror aimed at, what the studio must think are mindless style obsessed goths. When will they learn? If they need to put Poe's name on the title it's obviously as scary as a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror, actually the Simpsons would at least have stuck to the original story. Give me the old roger Corman movies any day.
