Hello,
I think Mark Steven Johnson totally failed with Ghost Rider. It was terrible. He did what, in my opinion, should be considered fanboy/rookie mistakes: focused on little details more than the actors or a plot that made sense.
With Daredevil, I liked his fanboy attention to detail (rain w/ radar sense and stuff) but the movie lacked in many areas.
Perhaps Mark Steven Johnson should be a consultant to help BETTER directors/writers create a better movie.
As a fan, I cannot believe in his heart Mark Steven Johnson believes GR was a good movie.

i want another one. but don't make him a dork. make him a little bit hardcore, or a lot more hardcore. and i agree with DN. the plot sucked, but not that much. it needs a little more work, and more action. this had action, but not as much as it should be. if there is another one, it should have the length of a good superhero movie, 2 and a half hours. thats enough time to tell a good story, and have plenty of action.
i wanna see more scarier things and a lot more action. i cant stress more action.

If any recent movie needs a reboot outside of Superman Returns Ghost Rider is it. Ghost Rider is definitely Marvel's Superman Returns. Both movies were horrible. Actually, Marvel needs to reboot Daredevil, too, now that you mention it.

Ghost Rider was a decent film.

I think Ghost Rider would work beter as a tv series than a movie. I also think that Cage is to old for the role.
Posted by: GW on March 9, 2009 at 15:46:11
It's not that I don't like Nick Cage, but he's the kind of actor that I have a hard time believing in a role like this. Ghost Rider definitely needs a harder, more "badass" edge to him and it's so hard for me to take Nick Cage seriously at that level, in this kind of film. Maybe that's more my failing than his, but if you don't believe in the cast, it's hard to take a film seriously. Ghost Rider, to me, had great potential but wound up being mostly overacting and forced machismo on Cage's part. If there's a sequel, I would hope that aspect would be rexamined.
Of course, it probably won't be. Since it made so much money the first time the prevailing assumption will likely be "go with what worked" and we'll get a sequel similar to the first one.

GR is one of my favorite charachters, and while I wasn't COMPLETELY disapointed with the movie, it wasn't that great, either. Cage was fine, but he got the role because he lobbied for it, not because he was the best person for it. It DOES need to be more hardcore.... though I dig Blaze much more than Dan Ketch, with what they are doing with Ketch in the comics now would be PERFECT for a movie treatment... maybe a Dan Ketch movie this time, with Cage only appearing at the end, to ask "WTF!?" and then a set up for a third... a battle between the Riders!

"Cue rediculous index finger, and now add the stupidest "scary" voice we can come up with..."
This pretty much sums up what should have been one of the easiest adaptations of a comic book character to film. Nicholas Cage is not, in any way, one of my most favored actors, but I have to admit a certain level of respect for someone who is a fan of the medium.
With that said, the director needed to spend a LOT more time on the villains in the film (special effects wise), and keep them on par with the hero. I mean, you have the [frick]in DEVIL (Mephisto) running around, and the best image we get is SHADOW PLAY!!!
And what the hell was with Blackheart?!! A pale, twenty something emo kid?!!
Yeah, they'd have to work on that before I would even be interested.

i soo hope they get to da another 1. Not because im a big fan of the first, but bcause i hope they do a good job this time. It has potential to be a decent movie, and the character has potential to attract both comic book and horror fans. Tim Burton would be a good directer!!!

Ghost Rider is one of my favorite comic characters and I was very dissapointed in the movie. Not just because Im a GR fan but because Im an adult. It felt like this movie was aimed at kids, or families. Ghost Rider does not belong in the same category as Spider-man or the Fantastic Four. They need a very dark, violent, horrific story for this movie to work. It should be more in line with Blade, but even if they wanted to avoid a R rating, look what they did with the Dark Knight.
Posted by: ico on March 9, 2009 at 17:24:46
I'd be willing to see this. Practically every 2nd comicbook movie has been better than the first. Spiderman 2, the Incredible Hulk, the Dark Knight, Batman Returns, Blade 2, Superman 2, X2, Hellboy 2 and even Fantastic Four 2 were all better than the first.
I'd be afraid about the third. Look at that track record.

David Fincher should direct it.

So there was a lot wrong with the Ghost Rider film. I did enjoy it in some ways. Unlike Superman Returns which was a downright horrible film and a failure in every way imaginable. The only thing they did right with Superman was cast Spacey for Luthor... oh and not greenlight a sequel since the first film sucked so bad.
In Ghost Rider they had awesome FX for Ghost Rider and I've always enjoyed Nick Cage, though he wasn't the best man for the job. I mean really, he didn't really do anything acting-wise that was anything great. Wayyyy too much kiddie humor... But the biggest thing that got me was how wimpy the demons were. I mean, each demon launched an attack and got to show of their power and then were easily dispatched by Ghost Rider. I still can't get the first action scene out of my head. As I recall it went something like this: Each demon struck Ghost Rider once and once only and then Ghost Rider gets back to his feet and all the demons get scared. Ghost Rider punches one of the demons, one time and one time only - nevermind that it was a powerful punch - and then the lil ***** falls to his knees and begs Ghost Rider for mercy! First of all... he hit him one time only and didn't seem to do any real damage... but also he had his buddies around and he's on his knees begging for mercy!!! Oh and he's supposed to be a big, powerful demon and yet he's begging for mercy! It's like the old TMNT series wherein the Turtles never actually harm Shredder, but he asks for mercy or realizes he's beaten. In other words... what I saw in this film was what i'd expect to see from an old 90's or earlier cartoon series and that is just downright pathetic!
People bash Daredevil, but that wasn't nearly as bad as Ghost Rider... And anyone who says otherwise is a damn fool!

Daredevil was better than ghost rider....alot better.I would like to see a sequel but just not nic cage,my opion go with the dan ketch story and get a different actor, what do you guys think about keifer sutherland?

"It has to have that action horror element and go deeper into that if it were to happen and [it should] keep us asking questions. Keep it interesting on a philosophical level"
Is he kidding?
Philosophical level? Hahaha!
Posted by: doomsday83 on March 9, 2009 at 21:33:59
Using Dan ketch would be cool, but it would be confusing for people unfamiliar with the comics. I just want to see a younger guy take the lead. I think Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) has the right look, and attitude to play either John Blaze, or Dan Ketch.

Originally Ghostwriter was being developed by David Goyer, and it was for adults. Then the studio decided decided to tone it down and make it more children friendly, yence Goyer left. But now with a dark film like Dark Knight doing so well, maybe they'll let the Ghostrider be as dark as it was meant to be.

man i dont wanna see a redneck of him.

I find it encouraging that he recognizes that it needs to be "action horror," a la Constantine. The original GR was just brain-dead action.

Patrick Wilson as "CAPTAIN AMERICA"
Forget making another Ghost Rider, we want to see The First Avenger.
Bring it!

Nicolas Cage made ghost rider sooooooooo boring. i hated the movie, if they do another one take Nicolas Cage out of the project
Posted by: GammaBob on March 10, 2009 at 07:58:55
I didn't hate the first one, although I admit it could have been better. I'd be down for a sequel, but I agree it would have to be hardcore. GR is a character with too much potential to just give up on after one "failed" attempt.

Marvel need to go back to the drawing board & listen to the fans more, Ghost-Rider we never got see the world through his eyes unlike Daredevil.
The movie needed more action involved say like another, 30 minutes of adult material the fight scenes could have been a mixture wrestling, boxing with a little bit of martial arts as being demons can techniques from other cultures.
Daredevil dosent need a reboot it needs a good sequal, this time more grit involved and introduce Stick. The man who trained Matt surely Matt has other family explain, the priest did he take matt under his wing good material there, also Stick must be of Asian origin surley there are plenty asian males for the role of Stcik.
Elecktra need to be redone the look of the film was great awful story.
