EXCL: Producer Talks Re-Animator Remake

Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor, with Elisa
March 17, 2009

The Re-Animator remake, we first broke the news to you about here, is indeed on the table. But it is not as far along as some news sources (throwing attached names like Elisha Cuthbert around) claim it is.

Earlier this month, I caught up to director Stuart Gordon who was unaware of executive producer Ray Haboush's plans to redo the '85 film in 3-D (read about that here). Haboush, of Halcyon International Pictures, is now speaking out about the recent rumors and the status of the remake.

"This current rumor about Elisha Cuthbert appearing in the remake of Re-Animator is just that - a rumor," he says. "Actually the whole idea that we are remaking the movie this summer, in Spain nonetheless, is completely off base...especially as no talent - writer, director, nor actor - has been attached to this project in any capacity whatsoever."

Haboush confirms, however, that our this story is true. "We have been discussing amongst ourselves the idea of remaking Re-Animator, in 3D, however, at the moment, it is still only a concept. For now, all of Brian [Yuzna]'s attention is focused on prepping Amphibious, a creature feature to be shot in 3D, that he's directing next month in Southeast Asia."

(Many thanks to Elisa of The Combs Corner for assisting in this story!)

I would like to see Barbara Crampton nude again. Make it happen.

They need to just forget that "Re-Animator" remake and just concentrate on making that planned "Amphibious" film, for seeing another sea creature film in 3-D does sound pretty cool(even if most of Yuzna's Spain-lensed features aren't that great).

I don't want to be "that guy", but this remake business is getting rediculous.

I'd much rather the long talked about sequel, House of Re-Animator which from what i've heard would have been the beginning of a new trilogy.

I fear they will do the same thing they did with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake which is that they took it too seriously. The original Re-Animator and Chainsaw Massacre were fun over the top films. I always use this as an example, it would be like doing a remake of Return of the Living Dead as a serious drama, it wouldnt work.

John Doe, i'm w/ you. i LIKE a lot of the remakes coming out/came out but THIS movie really doesn't need a facelift. while i'm NOT a huge RE-ANIMATOR fan i know it's a good movie that's great as it is.

Yet another remake we don't need. Just watch the frist Re-Animator.

Since House of Re-Animator is DOA (I still yearn to see William H. Macy in a Re-Animator movie, dammit), I think the way to go would be a remake, but ONLY if Gordon, Combs, Yuzna, etc. were still involved... AND it was a theatrical release... AND it was in 3-D. Otherwise, just drop it and move on.
